NX Energy Drinks: By Nitrous Express

What do you get when you find an energy drink made by a company which also produces Nitrous Oxide speed boosters for cars? NX Energy Speed Freak, Lean and Mean, and Hot Fuel are Nitrous Express’ attempt at an energy drink line.

Nitrous Express boasts about the energy drink line’s high Quercetin content, a plant extract that is supposed to be the most powerful “super-antioxidant” flavonoid. Quercetin has been attributed to providing a stronger immune system, mental alertness, and anti-inflammatory properties. So, how does it fare?

Taste

  • Speed Freak: This flavor of NX Energy Drink is described as “mango-citrus.” I noticed a mix of orange, grapefruit and lemon, which was quite delicious. The drink had a nice bite that was not too overpowering, and really complemented the flavor
  • Lean and Mean: Normally, I would mention the artificial sweetener flavor when talking about the low calorie version, but Lean and Mean NX Energy does not have this problem. In fact, it is nearly indistinguishable from Speed Freak. It does have slightly less of a bite to it, but I really had to try to find this difference.
  • Hot Fuel: This flavor made me hearken back to when I was a little kid, obsessed with Hawaiian Punch. To me, this is the adult version of that wondrous drink. Hot Fuel had an excellent fruit punch flavor that also had the nice bite at the finish that complemented this NX Energy Drink nicely.

Ingredients

All three flavors of Nitrous Express Energy Drink have the same ingredient profile: The whole (24 oz) bottle contains an impressive 240 mg of caffeine, 750 mg of Quercetin, 750 mg of Vitamin C, 30 mg of Vitamin B3, and 105 mg of Potassium. The bottle recommends you divide this into 3 (8 oz) servings. The Lean and Mean flavor has 0 calories, while the other two flavors have 300 calories per bottle.

Effect

The effect of the three NX Energy drinks was essentially the same. The kick was nice, the 240 mg of caffeine really provides a nice pick up. The “crashproof energy” claim came through, and I felt little to no crash after trying each drink. I think the company could provide more B Vitamins, but the energy drink delivers nonetheless.

Verdict

Overall, I really like this line. I’m sure some of you will equate the drink with NOS, as the concept is essentially the same right down to the bottle, which resembles a nitrous oxide container. But, Nitrous Express Energy Drink shouldn’t be written off. Each has an excellent flavor and a gratuitous amount of caffeine. I’m not sure whether the Quercetin is effective or not, but NX Energy Drink is quite good. If you see it in stores, I encourage you to try it out.
