Latte
A latte or cafe latte has become a pretty popular espresso based coffee drink around the globe.
A latte is simply steamed milk and at least 1 or multiple shots of espresso.
We find that most coffee shops use a double espresso shot in a 16 fl.oz. latte while smaller sizes may only contain 1 shot for a total of 77mg of caffeine.
If you aren't sure what your local coffee shop does, ask your barista.
The listing above reflects a latte made with a double shot of espresso (3 fl.oz.) and 10 fl.oz. whole milk (milk expands when steamed)
The Anatomy of a Caffe Latte
- A great latte starts with a perfectly pulled shot(s) of espresso. This means quality coffee beans were finely ground and packed properly. The shot is stopped before the crema turns white.
- The steaming of the milk is also important. Steamed milk for a latte should be velvety smooth with tiny air bubbles and heated to .
- The steamed milk is then poured into the espresso slowly in a fashion that sends some of the crema to the top of the cup.
Skilled baristas can even create beautiful designs with the correct pour method.
