American Blast Energy Drink

Need your jolt and a dose of patriotism? Then look no further than American Blast – that is, a jolt with the caffeinated varieties. American Blast seems like a standard energy drink with a bold name, but packs a few interesting ingredients within, and without!

Could American Blast have us seeing red, white and blue? Or is it just another energy drink? Let's find out.

Flavor

Light fruity taste with a bit of a grape accent. Sweet and definitely enjoyable – it isn't what you would expect from an average energy drink. It could even be likened to candy, which isn't surprising since high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is used as a sweetener.

Ingredients

Each variety contains a 2500mg proprietary blend of energizing ingredients, including the usual amino acids (taurine, tyrosine, etc.) and B-vitamins. However, it also includes a few interesting ingredients. One that we don't see too often is mucuna pruriens, a tropical legume known for its positive effects on the libido and mood stabilization, as the seeds contain L-dopamine. Also intriguing is the fact that 2 of the American Blast varieties are caffeine free! Some may not like the use of HFCS to sweeten the non-sugar free varieties.

Energy

The caffeinated American Blast gave me a reasonable lift, very similar to a 250ml Red Bull as they both contain 80mg of caffeine. I felt much more able to ignore distractions and concentrate on my studies, which I think is a direct result of L-dopamine's mood stabilization properties. There is no caffeine “edge” and I didn't crash one bit. The caffeine free varieties did not give me much of a boost, but I did notice subtle effects from the mucuna pruriens.

American Blast is definitely a tasty, patriotic way to get your energy fix. Major props for sure – I just wish it didn't have HFCS. Stay tuned for their energy shot review!
